BRONX, N.Y. — A 27-year-old Bronx resident has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month in the South Bronx, police announced.
Pedro Cruz, of 235 Brook Avenue, faces charges of murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon following the June 17 shooting of 38-year-old Victor Bautista.
Officers from the 40th Precinct responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:46 a.m. reporting a person shot near Trinity Avenue and East 149th Street. Upon arrival, they found Bautista with a gunshot wound to the chest.
EMS transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
Police did not release a motive or additional details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.
Cruz was taken into custody and formally charged as part of the ongoing investigation.
