NEW YORK — The NYPD is searching for a man who allegedly pistol-whipped a subway rider and stole his phone early Sunday morning on a northbound E train near the 42nd Street–Port Authority Bus Terminal station.
According to police, the incident occurred around 4:20 a.m. when a 35-year-old man was sitting aboard the train approaching the Midtown station. An unidentified individual approached the victim, displayed a firearm, and struck him multiple times in the head with the weapon before taking his iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The attacker then fled to another train car and eventually left the train to parts unknown, police said. The victim sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
The NYPD described the suspect as a male with a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray cargo pants, gray sneakers, and a white T-shirt.

The robbery occurred within the area covered by the Midtown South Precinct and Transit District 1. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday.
Investigators released surveillance images and are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect.
