Man Shot Dead in Early Morning Southeast Ambush

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 50-year-old man was fatally shot early Tuesday in the 1800 block of E Street SE, prompting a homicide investigation by Metropolitan Police, officials confirmed.

First District officers responded around 2:05 a.m. after residents reported hearing gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Lawrence Meekins of Northwest D.C. suffering from gunshot wounds.

DC Fire and EMS attempted lifesaving efforts, but Meekins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have not released information about possible suspects or motives in the killing.

Police seek tips in fatal shooting

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

The shooting remains under investigation, and no arrests have been announced.
