BRIGANTINE, N.J. — A 17-year-old leukemia survivor will host a July 4 fundraiser in Brigantine to support childhood cancer research, returning to the beach town where she spent summers during her treatment.
Lizzy Fluck, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) as a child, will lead a “Lemonade on the Beach” stand in front of Primal Surf Shop at 1219 W Brigantine Avenue from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday. The event benefits Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a national nonprofit focused on funding research and supporting families affected by childhood cancer.
Fluck, now seven years cancer-free, was discharged from the hospital on July 4, 2019. Her stand will offer lemonade, sweet treats, and handmade seashell magnets to raise money for ALSF, which has funded more than 1,500 research projects across 150 institutions.
“Brigantine remained a source of healing, joy, and connection for her and her family,” the event announcement stated.
The fundraiser also serves as part of ALSF’s annual Lemonade Days, which runs each June and includes more than 2,000 stands nationwide, collectively raising over $22.5 million annually.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was started by four-year-old Alex Scott in 2000 and has since raised nearly $350 million toward childhood cancer research.
