Pet waste stations installed in downtown New Rochelle following complaint uptick

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Four new pet waste stations have been installed in downtown New Rochelle as part of a pilot partnership between the City and the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID), officials announced this week.

The initiative aims to reduce pet waste on sidewalks and public spaces after city records showed a concentration of complaints in specific downtown areas last year. The new stations are stocked with waste bags and include disposal bins.

Locations for the stations were selected based on complaint data, according to the city.

“This pilot partnership between the City of New Rochelle and the Downtown BID” led to the installations, the City said in a statement.

Officials will monitor usage and complaint levels to evaluate whether additional stations or permanent installations are needed.

The program is part of broader efforts to improve cleanliness and livability in the city’s downtown core.
