GLADSTONE, Va. — A quick trip for baking soda turned into a six-figure windfall for a Nelson County woman who scratched her way to a $100,000 top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s Lincoln game.
Melinda Jacques purchased the winning ticket at Crossroads Express Mart, located at 2416 Piedmont Road in Gladstone. The Lincoln game offers prizes ranging from $5 up to $100,000, with Jacques claiming the third of four available top prizes.
The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 765,000. The overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.9.
Jacques told Lottery officials the win “doesn’t feel real” as she redeemed her ticket.
Profits from the Virginia Lottery support K-12 education, with Nelson County receiving over $1 million in funding last fiscal year. In total, the Lottery contributed more than $934 million to Virginia’s public schools during Fiscal Year 2024.
