Heavy delays reported across key New Jersey commuter routes Wednesday morning

NEWARK, N.J. — Morning commuters faced widespread delays across major New Jersey roadways as of 7:49 a.m., with travel times extended at key Hudson River crossings and several congested corridors statewide.

At the Lincoln Tunnel, drivers encountered eastbound delays through both the center and south tunnels from the New Jersey side in Weehawken Township, though all lanes remained open. Travel time from NJ Turnpike Exit 16E to the New York side held at 20 minutes.

The George Washington Bridge was also congested, with both upper and lower eastbound levels delayed at the New Jersey toll plaza in Fort Lee. Eastbound traffic on I-95 from I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge saw travel times stretch to 25 minutes.

Elsewhere, notable slowdowns included:

  • I-287 northbound from Exit 8 (Possumtown Rd) in Piscataway Twp to Exit 10 (CR 527/Easton Ave) in Franklin Twp.
  • US 1 southbound from north of I-295 to Brunswick Pike in Lawrence Twp.
  • NJ 139 Lower eastbound from Tonnelle Avenue to Jersey Ave in Jersey City.
  • Pulaski Skyway northbound from Broadway to just south of Tonnelle Circle, also in Jersey City.

Additional congestion affected NJ 3 westbound near Clifton, NJ 4 eastbound in Teaneck, and I-80 westbound from Elmwood Park to Paterson.

On the Garden State Parkway, two separate stretches of northbound traffic experienced delays:

  • Lakewood Twp to Brick Twp, near Exits 89C to 90 (2-mile delay).
  • Irvington Twp to East Orange, from Exit 143C to 145 (2-mile delay).

Southbound Parkway drivers also faced a 2.5-mile delay in the opposite direction between East Orange and Irvington Twp.

Commuters also encountered delays on NJ 29 in Trenton, and NJ 17 in both directions between Lodi and Rochelle Park Twp.
