WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was taken into custody early Wednesday after barricading himself inside a Southeast D.C. building for several hours, prompting road closures and a police response that lasted through the morning.
The incident began shortly after 1:42 a.m. in the 2900 block of Knox Place SE. The individual refused to exit the building, leading to a prolonged barricade situation in the residential neighborhood.
Police eventually arrested the suspect on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. Officials did not release details about the nature of the assault or whether any injuries were reported.
Residents were asked to avoid the area, and several streets were closed during the response. Authorities reopened the 2400 block of Alabama Avenue SE between Ainger Place and Irving Street, along with the 2900 block of Knox Place SE between Alabama Avenue and Hartford Street, following the suspect’s arrest.
The investigation remains ongoing and no additional charges have been announced.
