Newark police seek help identifying suspect in Park Avenue stabbing

NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who allegedly stabbed another person in Newark early Sunday morning.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., said the stabbing occurred around 4 a.m. on the 200 block of Park Avenue. Surveillance footage captured the suspect attacking the victim in the doorway of a residence.

The victim sustained a stab wound to the abdomen and was transported to University Hospital for treatment. Police said the suspect, described as a Black male, fled the scene on foot, heading north on North 7th Street.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, black and white sneakers, and a satchel bag across his chest, according to the footage.

“Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., requests the public’s help in identifying the male suspect pictured below, who stabbed a victim on Sunday, July 6,” the department stated.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips can be made anonymously and may be eligible for a reward.

Police continue to investigate the incident and are reviewing surveillance video for additional leads.
