LEONIA, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a woman critically injured early Thursday morning in Leonia, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
At approximately 4:35 a.m., Leonia police responded to a report of an unconscious pedestrian found along Grand Avenue near Ames Avenue. Officers arriving on scene determined the woman’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
The victim, an adult female, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center. Officials described her condition as critical.
Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force responded to the scene and launched a joint investigation with the Leonia Police Department.
No identifying information about the victim has been released. Police have not announced any arrests or identified a suspect vehicle as of Thursday afternoon.
The investigation is being led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under Chief Matthew Finck and the Leonia Police Department under Chief Scott Tamagny.
