Man killed, woman injured in Harlem shooting behind 8th Avenue building

NEW YORK — A 32-year-old man was fatally shot and a 40-year-old woman injured in a daytime shooting Monday afternoon behind a building on 8th Avenue in Harlem, police said.

Officers from the 32nd Precinct and Police Service Area 6 responded at approximately 2:37 p.m. to a 911 call reporting an assault in progress behind 2680 8th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a man with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and left arm, and a woman with a graze wound to her lower back.

The man, identified as Hamid Thomas of West 140th Street, was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where he was pronounced dead. The woman was also taken to the same hospital and is listed in stable condition.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
