Yonkers Police exam applications due July 25 ahead of September test

YONKERS, N.Y. — The Yonkers Police Department is reminding prospective officers that less than two weeks remain to apply for the upcoming police entrance exam scheduled for September 20.

Applications for the exam must be submitted in person by Friday, July 25 at 4:30 p.m., the department announced Monday.

Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 42 on the exam date, and must legally reside in Westchester, Nassau, Putnam, Rockland, or Bronx counties. A high school diploma or GED, U.S. citizenship, and a valid New York State Class D driver’s license are required at the time of appointment.

The starting salary for new officers is $70,229, with pay increasing to $106,707 after five years, excluding overtime and benefits.

Applications are available at joinYPD.com, the Department of Civil Service at 1 Larkin Center, the YPD Records Division at 104 South Broadway, and at all four Yonkers precincts. Filing must be done in person at the Civil Service office on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or on Saturdays at the Community Affairs Division at 127 North Broadway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A $50 filing fee, payable by check or money order, is required.

“Less than two weeks remaining to apply for the Yonkers Police Exam,” the department posted on Facebook.

Applications must be submitted in person before the July 25 deadline to qualify for the fall entrance exam.
