MANAHAWKIN, N.J. — A 5-year-old German Shepherd named Axel is now available for adoption at the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter, the shelter announced.

Described by staff as housebroken and calm, Axel is both dog- and cat-friendly. Shelter volunteers say he knows basic commands like “sit” and shows a quiet, loyal personality once comfortable in new surroundings.

Axel enjoys playing ball and is recommended for a home with German Shepherd or large-breed experience to help meet his needs.

Potential adopters can meet Axel daily between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the shelter, located at 360 Haywood Rd., Manahawkin.

“Axel is ready to find his forever family—the kind of home where he can settle in, feel safe, and be someone’s best friend for life,” the shelter stated.
