NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A 26-year-old Gloucester man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
Kyle Jacob Buquor was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Roderick C. Young following his conviction stemming from a July 2024 incident in which law enforcement discovered drugs and a firearm in his vehicle.
According to court documents, on July 15, 2024, Buquor parked a pickup truck near Market Drive and entered a store. While he was inside, a K9 conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted for narcotics. When Buquor returned, officers detained him and searched the vehicle.
Inside, agents found a handgun, three loaded magazines, an empty magazine, 11.5 grams of methamphetamine, and items consistent with drug trafficking activity.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Devon Heath and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods.
Buquor’s sentence follows a firearms and narcotics seizure that tied him directly to trafficking activity in Gloucester County.
