ELKRIDGE, MD — A quick stop for gas and a snack turned into a $50,004 Powerball win for a Howard County police officer, who matched four numbers and the Powerball in the July 14 drawing.
The winning ticket was purchased at the royal farms store located at 8268 Lark Brown Drive in Elkridge. The officer, who described himself as an occasional lottery player, said the win came by chance after deciding to pick up a $10 quick pick ticket with five sets of numbers.
The prize included $50,000 for the third-tier match and an extra $4 for matching the Powerball on another line. The winner, who used the Maryland Lottery app to verify the numbers, plans to add the money to his family’s savings.
The ticket was claimed on July 18.
