STAFFORD, Va. — A 40-year-old Stafford woman was arrested Saturday after allegedly driving drunk, striking a motorcyclist, and refusing to comply with deputies, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 19 at approximately 4:22 p.m., Sergeant E.E. West responded to multiple reports of a white Acura swerving on southbound Richmond Highway. Moments later, West arrived at the intersection of Richmond Highway and Telegraph Road and found the Acura had crashed into a motorcycle.
Witnesses and video footage confirmed the motorcyclist had stopped at a red light when the Acura, straddling both lanes, rear-ended him. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries.
The driver, identified as Joanne Strong, remained in the vehicle and showed clear signs of intoxication. She refused to exit the car and ignored deputies’ commands, prompting officers to remove and detain her. Deputies later learned Strong had a prior DUI.
Strong was charged with DUI second offense within five to ten years, second offense refusal, two counts of obstruction of justice, and reckless driving. She was booked at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
