Smyrna, DE – A 37-year-old Smyrna man is in custody after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning that ended in a crash with a Delaware State Police SUV.
Adrian Waters was spotted around 1:23 a.m. on August 12 driving a stolen Mazda CX-5 on Halltown Road near the Maryland–Delaware border. A deputy from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop, during which Waters sped off, triggering a multi-agency pursuit.
The chase continued into Delaware, where troopers deployed stop sticks along Westville Road to disable the fleeing vehicle. Waters eventually crashed into a fully marked State Police Tahoe. No injuries were reported to the trooper involved.
After the crash, Waters was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed an Oxycodone pill and drug paraphernalia. Troopers also noted that Waters appeared impaired. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries before being taken to Troop 3.
Waters, who was already wanted on felony charges by the Smyrna Police Department, now faces multiple additional charges. He was arraigned and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $23,900 cash bond.
