Murder suspect nabbed in Utica with loaded gun hidden in waistband after NYC homicide

Utica, NY — A 25-year-old murder suspect wanted in connection to a Brooklyn homicide was captured in Utica, where officers found him armed and caused thousands in damage to a police cruiser during his arrest and transport.

Daishaughn Hodge, of New York City, was located Thursday at a residence on the 900 block of Downer Avenue after authorities received a tip. The charges stem from a fatal incident in Brooklyn on August 1.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force — including personnel from the U.S. Marshals, Utica Police, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, and NYPD warrant detectives — converged on the location and arrested Hodge after entering the residence.

During a search following his arrest, officers found a loaded .45 caliber handgun tucked inside his waistband.

While being transported to the Utica Police Department, Hodge repeatedly kicked the back door of the patrol vehicle. According to police, he continued damaging the interior until the door came loose from its frame, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage.

Hodge was charged by Utica Police with multiple weapon offenses and one count of criminal mischief for the damage to the vehicle. He remains in custody.
