Utica, NY – Two people were taken into custody after Utica police responded to a report of a man waving a handgun on Court Street Wednesday night, leading to a foot chase and the recovery of a loaded firearm.

Around 9:00 p.m. on August 13, officers were dispatched to 811 Court Street after receiving a description of a shirtless male wearing dark sweatpants allegedly seen with a handgun. When officers arrived, they spotted the man, but quickly noticed another individual nearby acting suspiciously, shielding his waistband and turning his body away.

As an officer approached, that male fled, prompting a brief foot pursuit. He was detained shortly afterward, and a frisk of the area revealed a loaded 9mm handgun. The firearm and suspect were transported to the Utica Police Department.
