WALDORF, MD – A 36-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly firing several shots at another driver during a road rage confrontation in Charles County last month.
Deputies identified the suspect as Robert Simms of Waldorf, who was taken into custody on August 5 following a search of his home.
Investigators say a handgun with an obliterated serial number was recovered during the search.
The incident happened on July 10 at the intersection of Billingsley and Middletown roads. According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was stopped at a red light when Simms, riding a motorcycle, pulled up and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. The gunfire shattered the car’s window and left the driver with minor injuries.
Detectives later determined the shooting followed a heated road rage dispute between the two drivers just minutes earlier. During the investigation, authorities also learned that Simms was prohibited from owning a firearm due to a previous conviction.
Simms has been charged with aggravated assault, weapons violations, and other related offenses. On August 14, a judge ordered he remain held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation.
