Man high on drugs bites deputy during I-95 foot chase claims he saw rubber deer mask

RICHMOND, VA – A 30-year-old man is facing multiple charges after he ran into oncoming traffic on I-95, bit a deputy during his arrest, and later claimed he was hallucinating that the officer was wearing a rubber deer mask.

The bizarre incident unfolded late Saturday night around 11:15 p.m. when multiple 911 callers reported a man walking in the northbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 136. Deputies quickly located the pedestrian, later identified as Adrian Chiodo, who showed obvious signs of drug intoxication.

When a deputy tried to coax Chiodo to the shoulder for safety, the man instead bolted into traffic, sparking a short foot chase. The deputy tackled him before he could be struck by a vehicle. As additional deputies arrived to help detain him, Chiodo bit one of them on the foot. The deputy was not injured.

During questioning, Chiodo admitted to taking a mix of controlled substances and claimed he fled because he believed the deputy was holding a rubber deer mask, a hallucination he blamed on the drugs.

Chiodo was charged with assault and battery on law enforcement, public intoxication, obstruction of justice, fleeing law enforcement, and unauthorized use of a highway. He was booked at Rappahannock Regional Jail with a $5,000 secured bond.
