Rep. Chris Smith praises Trump’s Ukraine peace push as world leaders gather at White House

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) on Monday praised President Donald Trump’s leadership in ongoing efforts to broker peace in Ukraine, calling his involvement “bold” and “tenacious” during a White House summit that brought together leaders from across Europe.

Smith, a senior House Republican and prominent voice on foreign policy, credited Trump with reinvigorating diplomacy and driving momentum toward a negotiated end to the war. He highlighted Trump’s personal engagement with both warring parties and European stakeholders as key to recent breakthroughs.

“President Trump’s noble resolve to save lives and stop the killing is clearly motivating and enabling him to talk to both sides and all European stakeholders with credibility and influence,” Smith said in a public statement. “My wife, Marie, and I continue to pray that he succeed, and that a lasting and just peace takes hold.”

According to Smith, Trump’s approach has already led to tangible results in global hotspots, including conflict zones in Asia and Africa. Smith contrasted this with what he described as the Biden administration’s lack of a focused peace strategy.

Trump met at the White House on Monday with the heads of government from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Finland, and representatives from the European Commission and NATO — a gathering that Trump reportedly called the most extensive of its kind ever hosted at the executive mansion.

Smith said the meeting signaled a shift in global coordination and trust around American leadership, with traditional U.S. allies aligning with Trump’s stated goal of securing “the best achievable terms” for peace while preserving Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Citing new polling from within Ukraine, Smith also noted growing domestic support there for negotiations to end the war, which began with Russia’s invasion more than three years ago.

The White House has not released details on any formal agreements stemming from Monday’s summit.
