D.C. man arrested after rape at Rockville gas station and armed bank robbery in Silver Spring
GAITHERSBURG, MD – A Washington, D.C. man is being held without bond after Montgomery County detectives linked him to both a violent sexual assault at a Rockville gas station and an armed bank robbery in Silver Spring committed on consecutive days.
On August 14, just after 7 p.m., officers responded to a Rockville gas station where investigators say the suspect attacked and raped the lone employee before fleeing in a Mazda SUV. Surveillance footage captured his image, including distinctive clothing he was wearing.
The following morning, August 15, police were called to the Capital One Bank in the 11200 block of Georgia Avenue around 9:23 a.m. for an armed robbery in progress. Officers arrived quickly and arrested 34-year-old Carlos St. James Hover of Washington, D.C.
Detectives noted Hover had driven a Mazda SUV to the bank and was still wearing some of the same distinctive clothing seen in the gas station assault. He also matched surveillance video from the earlier incident.
Hover has been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree assault, armed robbery, resisting arrest, and related offenses. He is currently being held without bond.
