Police nab suspect in Minnesota Avenue shooting

Arrest made after Minnesota Avenue shooting in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON, DC – A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured one person Saturday afternoon in Southeast, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Around 4:34 p.m. on August 16, two suspects and the victim were engaged in a conversation in the 2200 block of Minnesota Avenue SE. During the exchange, police say one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and shot the victim before fleeing the scene in a vehicle with the other suspect.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Later that same day, detectives arrested 21-year-old Corneal Smith of Southeast, charging him with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
