Mom and son each hit $50K lottery jackpot in Maryland

North Carolina man and Parkville mom each win $50K with matching lottery tickets

BALTIMORE, MD – A trip to visit his mother turned into a life-changing moment for a North Carolina construction worker after he bought two Bonus Match 5 tickets in Parkville that each won $50,000—one for him and one for his mom.

The man stopped on August 4 at Speedy Convenience Store, located at 7101 Darlington Drive, where he purchased the two tickets. He explained that he filled out separate play slips with the same three number combinations, each good for seven consecutive drawings beginning that evening.

That night’s drawing delivered a perfect match on both tickets. “I just remained calm and chilled,” the son said when he claimed his prize August 18 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The following day, his mother collected her $50,000 prize. A longtime lottery player, she said she often reuses the same numbers but no longer remembers how she chose them. The retired Parkville resident said she may put her winnings toward a car but is in no rush.

Her son said he is still undecided on how he will use his share of the prize.
