Swimming allowed, but only waist high at Wildwood beach

Waist-deep only as surf improves in Wildwood Crest but swimming ban stays

Wildwood Crest, NJ – Wednesday — Beachgoers in Wildwood Crest will now be allowed back into the surf — but only up to their waist — as lifeguards report calmer waters and reduced rip current risks following several days of hazardous ocean conditions.

The Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol announced that some restrictions have been loosened after surf safety improved Wednesday morning. While full swimming remains off-limits, wading up to waist-level is now permitted under close supervision.

All lifeguard stands are fully staffed, and officials continue to urge beach visitors to enter the water only in front of lifeguard stations. The beach patrol emphasized that although surf conditions have eased, safety precautions remain in place to prevent potential drownings.

Earlier this week, rip currents prompted a ban on all water entry. With conditions stabilizing, the beach patrol is taking cautious steps toward normal operations.
