Ice cream run ends with $50,000 lottery win in Eldersburg
ELDERSBURG, MD – A family movie night turned into a $50,000 payday for an Eldersburg father who scratched his way to a top prize while watching a film with his two preschoolers.
The man said he picked up the lucky $10 Money Bags ticket while grabbing ice cream at the Martin’s grocery store on Londontown Boulevard. Later that evening, as the family settled in for a movie, he scratched off a matching number 25 that revealed the $50,000 win.
“We kept watching the movie. We didn’t believe it was real,” the dad said after claiming the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on August 19. His wife and children joined him for the visit.
To be sure, he downloaded the Maryland Lottery app to scan the ticket. When the app confirmed the win, his wife downloaded it too and checked again before they both accepted the life-changing surprise.
The winner said the prize will go toward starting college funds for his children, calling it “a nice start for a college fund.”
Martin’s will receive a $500 retailer bonus for selling the winning ticket.
