Eldersburg dad wins $50K scratch-off prize during family movie night
ELDERSBURG, MD – What began as a quiet movie night with his two preschoolers turned into a $50,000 surprise for an Eldersburg father who scratched off a top-prize Maryland Lottery ticket while watching the film.
The man purchased the lucky $10 Money Bags ticket at Martin’s grocery store on Londontown Boulevard while picking up ice cream. Settling in at home, he scratched the ticket and discovered a matching number 25 worth $50,000.
“We kept watching the movie. We didn’t believe it was real,” he said after claiming his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on August 19. To confirm, he scanned the ticket with the Lottery’s mobile app. His wife also downloaded the app to triple-check the win before they scheduled their appointment to collect the prize.
The winner said the money will go toward college funds for his young children, calling it “a nice start for a college fund.”
Martin’s grocery store will receive a $500 retailer bonus for selling the winning ticket.
