Man dies after hit-and-run on Sandtown Road near Felton driver located by police

Felton, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man earlier this month on Sandtown Road near Felton.

The crash occurred on August 1 at approximately 9:19 p.m. as a Ford Transit van was traveling westbound on Sandtown Road near John Hurd Road. According to investigators, Evan Young of Centreville, Maryland, was walking in the westbound lane when he was struck by the van, which did not stop and continued down the road.

Young was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. On August 16, he died as a result of those injuries.

As part of the investigation, troopers located the involved Ford Transit van on August 2 and identified the driver as a 42-year-old man from Ellendale, Delaware. Police have not released the driver’s name or indicated whether charges have been filed.
