Man wanted in Virginia busted in Maryland as local arrests sweep St. Mary’s County

Leonardtown, MD – Thursday — A fugitive wanted in Virginia was taken into custody last week during a traffic stop in Lexington Park, leading a wave of arrests across St. Mary’s County that included theft, DUI, and a rape suspect facing multiple child sex charges.

On August 13, a trooper stopped a vehicle on Three Notch Road near Pegg Road and identified the driver as Shane Robert Sorrells, 30, of Nanjemoy. A records check revealed an active extraditable warrant out of Orange County, Virginia. Sorrells was arrested and charged as a fugitive from justice before being transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

Five days later, on August 18, a theft at the Walmart in California, Maryland, led to a criminal citation for Jason Eric Banks Jr., 29, of Leonardtown. Police say Banks Jr. stole over $100 worth of merchandise and was cited for theft between $100 and $1,500.

Four drivers were arrested on DUI charges across the county between August 14 and 19. The individuals arrested include:

  • Dewayne Karon Moses, 50, of Forestville
  • Emily Marie Miesowitz, 26, of Mechanicsville
  • Brooklyn Aubrey Hall, 19, of Mechanicsville
  • Vincent Thomas Curry Gray, 35, of Washington, D.C.

Additionally, several individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants, including Terrod Lamar Branson, 26, of Waldorf. Branson was taken into custody on August 12 on a slew of violent sex offense charges, including first- and second-degree rape, multiple counts of child sexual abuse, and assault.

Other open warrant arrests include:

  • Jayda Amora Berry, 21, of Lexington Park – failure to appear for driving without a license
  • Nicole Michelle Brown, 24, of Lexington Park – failure to appear for theft under $100
  • Nathan Dean Dugan McKay, 25, of California – failure to appear for driving with a suspended license
  • Shelbee Lee Dixon, 29, of Mechanicsville – failure to appear for driving without a license
