NEWBURGH, NY — A lucky Powerball player is holding a $50,000 winning ticket today after matching four numbers plus the red Power Ball in the August 20 drawing, according to the New York Lottery.

The third-prize-winning ticket was sold at Smokes 4 Less, located at 59 North Plank Road in Newburgh. The $2 ticket matched four of the five white ball numbers and the red Power Ball, landing the purchaser a $50,000 payday.

The winning numbers were drawn Monday night as part of the regular Powerball schedule, which includes drawings every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Powerball numbers are drawn from a field of one to 69, with the red Power Ball selected from a separate pool of one to 26.

The winner has not yet been identified, and the ticket must be claimed through the New York Lottery. All lottery prizes must be claimed within one year of the drawing date.
