Woman hospitalized after oxygen-related fire destroys Havre De Grace home

Havre De Grace, MD – Thursday — A devastating early-morning house fire in Harford County sent a 66-year-old woman to Shock Trauma and killed three cats after flames tore through a two-story single-family home on Linden Lane.

The fire broke out just after 4 a.m. at 622 Linden Lane in Havre De Grace. The sole occupant told investigators she had turned on her oxygen concentrator in the living room when she heard a sudden “pop” and saw a flash of fire. The woman escaped through the front door as a neighbor spotted the flames and called 911.

The blaze quickly consumed the home, which fire officials estimate suffered $250,000 in structural damage and $150,000 in lost contents. The home is considered a total loss, and the woman has been displaced.

She was treated on scene by Harford County EMS and later transported to Shock Trauma, where she remains in guarded condition.

Tragically, the woman’s three cats perished in the fire.

The Susquehanna Hose Company led the response, with 65 firefighters battling the flames for about an hour before the fire was brought under control. There were no smoke detectors reported to have activated, and the home was not equipped with a fire alarm or sprinkler system.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, though officials have identified the living room as the point of origin.
