Greensboro, NC – A Florida man already serving a 47-year federal sentence for violent cryptocurrency home invasions was handed nearly seven more years in prison Thursday for launching a brutal attack on a cooperating witness who testified against him.
Remy Ra St Felix, 25, of West Palm Beach, pleaded guilty earlier this year to retaliating against a federal witness after he assaulted the individual inside a detention center in Greensboro on October 8. Prosecutors said St Felix was being held at the facility when he was let out of a holding cell and immediately began punching the witness—who was shackled at the time—striking him repeatedly in the head and body while shouting insults and calling him a “rat.”
The attack came after Witness-1 had testified in open court about St Felix’s role in a series of violent home invasions orchestrated to steal cryptocurrency. A jury convicted St Felix on all counts, and he was sentenced to 47 years behind bars for the organized scheme. But instead of accepting his fate, prosecutors said, St Felix lashed out violently at a key witness in an apparent act of revenge.
Following the beating, St Felix made phone calls from jail bragging to his mother and girlfriend about the attack, according to court records. The new sentence—six years and 10 months—includes 36 months to run concurrently with his current term, while the remaining 46 months are consecutive.
Authorities said the attack struck at the core of the justice system’s reliance on witness testimony and vowed to prosecute anyone who attempts to intimidate or retaliate against those who cooperate.
The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted in the Middle District of North Carolina. St Felix will also be subject to five years of supervised release following his extended prison term.
