Cambridge teens charged in residential burglary after being spotted near scene
CAMBRIDGE, MD — Two juveniles are facing multiple felony charges after officers investigating a burglary in Cambridge recognized the suspects from surveillance footage and found them just blocks away from the crime scene with stolen property in their possession.
Cambridge Police responded to the 600 block of Hubert Street around 5:43 p.m. on Monday, August 18, after a resident reported that their home had been broken into the day prior. The burglary, which occurred around 4:58 p.m. on August 17, involved the theft of a television, jewelry, personal documents, and cash. The victim had surveillance footage of two individuals committing the break-in.
While clearing the scene, officers spotted two teens at the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and Hubert Street who matched the suspects seen in the surveillance video. The pair — a 16-year-old male and a 14-year-old female, both from Cambridge — were detained without incident. Some of the stolen items were found in their possession during the stop.
Both teens were transported to CPD headquarters for processing and later transferred to the Department of Juvenile Services Lower Shore for commitment.
The 16-year-old male faces five charges:
- Burglary 1st Degree
- Burglary 3rd Degree
- Burglary 4th Degree Dwelling
- Theft $1,500 to Under $25,000
- Fraud – Identity to Avoid Prosecution
The 14-year-old female was charged with:
- Burglary 1st Degree
- Burglary 3rd Degree
- Burglary 4th Degree Dwelling
- Theft $1,500 to Under $25,000
