Father accused of stabbing wife to death escapes to Peru with children
LANCASTER, CA — A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his wife to death in their Lancaster apartment and fleeing to Peru with their three children.
Prosecutors said Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo fatally stabbed 33-year-old Sheylla Lisbet Cabrera on August 10. The couple lived in the apartment with their children, who were taken by Cornejo after the killing.
A felony complaint was filed charging Cornejo with one count of murder, including an allegation of using a knife as a deadly weapon. An extradition arrest warrant has been issued as authorities seek his return to Los Angeles County.
If convicted, Cornejo faces a maximum of 26 years to life in state prison.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorneys Diane Hong and Tyler Zaremba and is under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
