Man killed another wounded in late-night Mountain Street shooting in South Philly

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 37-year-old man is dead and another injured after a late-night shooting erupted on a South Philadelphia street, police said Wednesday.

Officers from the 3rd District responded to reports of a person with a gun just before midnight Tuesday on the 600 block of Mountain Street. When they arrived at the scene around 11:40 p.m., they discovered two men lying in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds.

The first victim, a 37-year-old male, had been shot in the back and buttocks. Medics transported him to Jefferson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:12 a.m. Wednesday.

The second victim, a 23-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound to his right shoulder and was also taken to Jefferson Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

As of Wednesday morning, no arrests have been made and a motive remains unclear. The Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case.
