Bronx, NY – A 46-year-old man was fatally shot Friday evening at a busy Bronx intersection, prompting a homicide investigation as police search for the shooter.
Around 5:51 p.m. on August 22, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man shot near East 164th Street and Washington Avenue, within the 42nd Precinct. When they arrived, they found James Gaines, 46, with a gunshot wound to the neck.
Emergency Medical Services rushed Gaines to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln in critical condition, but he was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.
The scene remained active into the evening as police canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance footage. No arrests have been made, and investigators have not released information regarding a possible motive or suspect description.
