Sex abuse case in Somerset County leads to arrest

Somerset County man arrested on charges of sexually abusing a minor

CRISFIELD, MD — Maryland State Police arrested a 60-year-old Crisfield man on Thursday in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a minor in Somerset County.

Gene Sheldon Hughes Jr. faces charges including sex abuse of a minor, second-degree assault, and related offenses. He was taken into custody at his home without incident and transported to the Somerset County District Court Commissioner’s Office, where he was ordered held without bond.

The arrest came after investigators with the Princess Anne Criminal Enforcement Division, Eastern Region, obtained a warrant earlier that day. Police said the investigation remains active.
