High-speed race ends in deadly Newark crash that kills 75-year-old driver

Newark, DE – A 75-year-old man is dead following a two-car collision Friday afternoon in Newark, where investigators say a BMW involved in a street race slammed into the victim’s vehicle as it was making a left turn.

Delaware State Police say the crash happened around 3:23 p.m. on Bear Christiana Road at the intersection with Freedom Road. A maroon Chevrolet Trax was heading north in the left turn lane when it began to turn onto Freedom Road. At the same time, a black BMW 335 traveling southbound at high speed struck the front-right side of the Chevrolet.

Troopers say the BMW appeared to be racing another, unidentified vehicle moments before the collision.
