Landover, MD – The Powerball jackpot may have rolled over again, but two lucky Maryland players each landed $500,000 prizes in Wednesday night’s Double Play drawing, with winning tickets sold in Landover and Riverdale, the Maryland Lottery announced.
The Aug. 20 drawing didn’t produce a jackpot winner, bumping the Powerball grand prize to an estimated $700 million annuity ($316.3 million cash option) for the next drawing on Saturday. However, two players who paid an extra $1 for the Double Play option came away with massive wins.
The two winning tickets, each matching all five white balls but not the red Power Ball in the Double Play drawing, were sold at Landover Hills Exxon at 6579 Annapolis Road in Landover and A-1 Laundromat at 6818 Riverdale Road in Riverdale. Each ticket is worth $500,000. Winners have 182 days from the draw date to claim their prizes at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
Powerball Double Play is a secondary drawing held 30 minutes after the main game. Players can participate by adding $1 to their $2 Powerball ticket, making it eligible for both draws.
The Powerball jackpot has been climbing since it was last won on May 31 at $204.5 million. Since then, the Maryland Lottery has sold more than $24.5 million worth of Powerball tickets and paid out over $6.9 million in prizes statewide. Other recent wins include two $1 million tickets sold in Baltimore and Catonsville, two $150,000 prizes in Baltimore and Riverdale, and a $100,000 winner in Oxon Hill.
Both Powerball and Double Play feature nine prize tiers, with top prizes of the main game starting at $20 million and the Double Play grand prize set at $10 million.
