Bronx street turns into war zone as five shot and four arrested in deadly gang ambush
BRONX, NY – A 32-year-old man was killed and four others wounded, including a teenage girl shot in the face, when gunfire erupted during a gang-related ambush on a Bronx street Saturday evening—leading to the arrest of four suspects, including two teens.
The gunfire broke out just before 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Burke Avenue and Wickham Avenue in the 47th Precinct, where police say multiple shooters opened fire in a targeted attack. When officers arrived, they found two critically injured victims: 32-year-old Jaceil Banks, shot in the chest, and a 17-year-old girl shot in the face.
Banks, who lived on Summit Avenue in the Bronx, was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where he died. The teenage girl remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Three additional victims—two men and a woman—were transported to area hospitals by private vehicles. A 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were treated at Jacobi Medical Center for gunshot wounds to the back and are now listed in stable condition. A 42-year-old man shot in the arm was taken to Montefiore Hospital and is also expected to survive.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting, including 16- and 17-year-old males, as well as 20-year-old Daevon Reyes of Riverdale Avenue and 25-year-old Robert Royal of Nelson Avenue. All four face charges of murder, four counts of attempted murder, gang assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Royal was not charged with gang assault.
Police believe the mass shooting stemmed from a violent gang conflict, though the motive and full circumstances remain under investigation. Authorities have not confirmed how many firearms were used or whether all suspects fired shots.
The NYPD says the investigation is ongoing and has not ruled out additional arrests.
