WILMINGTON, DE — A 21-year-old motorcyclist has died from injuries sustained in a solo crash earlier this month, prompting an ongoing investigation by Delaware State Police.
On the afternoon of August 10, Zack Napolitano of Wilmington was riding a Kawasaki ZX636 motorcycle north on Barley Mill Road. While taking the eastbound off-ramp to Kennett Pike around 4:30 p.m., he lost control while attempting to navigate the curve and struck a guardrail. The collision threw Napolitano from the bike.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. After nearly two weeks of medical care, Napolitano died on Saturday due to complications from the crash.
Following the incident, the roadway remained closed for about three hours as Delaware State Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit from Troop 2 examined the scene and cleared the area. Investigators have not determined why Napolitano was unable to complete the turn.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have relevant information is urged to contact Delaware State Police.
