BRONX, NY – Two women were targeted within 30 minutes of each other Wednesday morning in a pair of swift chain-snatching incidents in the Bronx, both carried out by suspects who fled in the same dark-colored Toyota Camry, police said.
The back-to-back thefts took place in the 43rd Precinct, and both victims were approached while walking in residential areas of Soundview.
In the first incident, reported at approximately 9:00 a.m., a 60-year-old woman walking her dog near Stratford Avenue and East 174th Street was confronted by two unidentified males who snatched two gold chains from around her neck. The suspects then jumped into a dark, older model Toyota Camry and fled. The stolen jewelry was valued at approximately $1,000. The victim was not injured.
Just 30 minutes later, at around 9:30 a.m., a 45-year-old woman walking near 743 Rosedale Avenue was approached by a male suspect who ripped a chain off her neck before fleeing the scene in the same type of dark Toyota Camry. That chain was estimated to be worth $1,300. No injuries were reported in the second incident either.
The NYPD released descriptions of the suspects involved in the larceny pattern. One individual is described as a male with a dark complexion, medium build, and approximately 20 to 25 years old. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, camouflage pants, blue socks, and black sandals.
The second individual is described similarly — male, with a dark complexion, medium build, and in the same age range of 20 to 25.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation into the grand larceny pattern continues.
