Drone with thermal camera finds lost boater near golf course
BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A kayaker who called 911 saying he was lost and dragging his boat through the woods at Double Trouble State Park was safely located Monday night after police used drone technology to track him down.
The emergency call came in around 8:36 p.m., but phone contact with the man was lost shortly after. Coordinates from the call placed his last known location about a half-mile south of the 10th hole at Cedar Creek Golf Course.
Berkeley Township officers launched a coordinated search effort and deployed a police drone to scan the area. The thermal camera aboard the drone located the lost kayaker and also spotted two individuals in the woods searching for him.
Officers guided all three men safely out of the area. None of them required medical treatment.
