Baltimore player wins $500K Powerball Double Play prize as jackpot climbs to $815 million

Baltimore, MD – A Powerball ticket purchased at a neighborhood liquor store in Baltimore hit for $500,000 in the Double Play drawing on Monday night, making it one of the state’s biggest wins this week as the national jackpot continues to grow.

The winning ticket, sold at Bernie’s Liquors at 1414 Martin Boulevard, matched all five white balls drawn in the August 25 Double Play drawing. Though it missed the red Power Ball number required to hit the $10 million top Double Play prize, it still netted a hefty half-million-dollar payday.

With no jackpot winner in the regular Powerball drawing, the top prize has now ballooned to an estimated $815 million annuity value for the next drawing on Wednesday night, with a cash option of $367.9 million.

The $500,000 Baltimore winner joins two other recent Maryland Double Play winners from the August 20 drawing — one at Landover Hills Exxon and another at A-1 Laundromat in Riverdale — both of which also hit for $500,000. All three tickets matched five numbers without the Power Ball in the separate Double Play drawing.

Winners have 182 days from the draw date to claim their prizes at Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore. Each of the three retailers will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning tickets.

Since the last jackpot hit on May 31, Maryland players have claimed more than $7.8 million in Powerball prizes, including multiple wins of $1 million, $150,000, and $50,000. The Maryland Lottery has sold over $28.6 million in Powerball tickets during that span.

Powerball Double Play is an optional $1 add-on that gives players a second shot at winning, with prizes up to $10 million. It is drawn approximately 30 minutes after the main Powerball drawing.
