Man struck and killed in overnight crash on South Independence Boulevard

Virginia Beach, VA – A 29-year-old man was killed just after midnight Wednesday after he was struck by a vehicle on South Independence Boulevard, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Virginia Beach Police Department.

At around 12:59 a.m., officers responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian in the 2200 block of S. Independence Blvd. When emergency crews arrived, they found Morgan Babecki, a Virginia Beach resident, unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. According to police, no charges are expected to be filed in connection with the incident.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the crash have not been released, and it is unclear whether the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street or walking along the roadway. The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing its investigation.
