Gas station stickup triggers manhunt and Metro-North chaos

Police lock down Mount Vernon after armed robbery attempt at gas station sparks manhunt

MOUNT VERNON, NY – A heavy police presence swept through parts of Mount Vernon Thursday after an attempted armed robbery at a gas station triggered reports of gunfire and forced Metro-North service to shut down in the area.

According to Mount Vernon Police, the incident unfolded along Mount Vernon Avenue. While investigators are looking into reports that shots were fired, officials said there are currently no confirmed injuries.

The NYPD, MTA Police, and other agencies are assisting in the search for suspects, and law enforcement has secured the immediate area while the investigation continues.

As a precaution, Metro-North service through both Mount Vernon West and Mount Vernon East stations was temporarily suspended for trains heading into New York City.

Police urged the public to avoid the area around Mount Vernon Avenue and Lincoln Avenue until further notice.
