NEW HOLLAND, PA – A Lancaster County man accused of assaulting a woman and using a 1-year-old child as a human shield during a violent confrontation will have his case move forward to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing earlier this month.
Mupisi Mizowa, 43, appeared before Judge Jonathan Heisse on August 15, where he waived the hearing on charges of endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, and harassment. The case will now proceed under the supervision of the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities allege that shortly before midnight on August 3, Mizowa became heavily intoxicated and struck an adult victim twice in the head inside a residence on the 200 block of East Jackson Street. He then allegedly dragged her by the arm as another juvenile inside the home called police for help.
When officers arrived, investigators say Mizowa grabbed the infant victim, refused repeated police commands to release her, and used the child as a shield while shaking her. Police ultimately had to physically restrain him to prevent further harm to the baby.
Mizowa remains in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jessica Collo. Charges were filed by New Holland Borough Police Officer Brett Reifsnyder.
