POINT PLEASANT BOROUGH, NJ – A 42-year-old man from Point Pleasant Borough is facing multiple charges after investigators say they uncovered disturbing evidence of child sexual abuse material being created and shared from his home, which was being used as a foster residence.
John Olson was arrested on August 22 after a joint investigation led by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, working with the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team and Point Pleasant Police Department. Officials said Olson was initially charged with distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material following a search of his home.
The case began when the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about images being uploaded to the internet through the messaging app Kik. Investigators traced the activity to Olson’s residence, authorities said.
During the search, detectives seized multiple electronic devices and discovered that Olson’s foster home was equipped with cameras inside children’s bedrooms. A forensic review of a cell phone later revealed nude images of minors that appeared to have been taken by those cameras.
As a result, prosecutors filed additional charges against Olson on Thursday, including manufacturing child sexual abuse material. He remains lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
