Cambridge woman arrested after near miss with police ends in DUI bust

Cambridge, MD — A late-night routine traffic stop took a dramatic turn Saturday when a Cambridge woman allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic and drew the attention of nearby officers, leading to a DUI arrest just blocks away from the original stop.

Around 10:33 p.m. on Cedar Street near Peachblossom Avenue, Cambridge Police officers stopped Lydia Denise Cropper, 67, after they saw her vehicle strike a curb and veer into the opposite lane while they were conducting an unrelated traffic stop nearby on Dorchester Avenue.

When officers approached Cropper’s vehicle, they detected a strong odor of alcohol and noted visible signs of impairment. Cropper agreed to a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which police say she failed.
